Students from Gdansk – the best in the fourth edition of ‘Window to Construction’

Students of the best technical universities in Poland for the fourth time have come to Bytów following DRUTEX invitation – one of the leaders of the European window and door woodwork – in order to participate in the 4th conference ‘Window to Construction’ that took place on 11 and 12 May.

This year edition hosted students from Universities of Technology from Gdansk, Koszalin,  Warsaw, Swietokrzyski University of Technology as well as the West Pomeranian University of Technology. On the first day the teams gave 12 presentations regarding their own scientific research into technological innovation.  This part was heard by students of the Construction Technical School in Gdansk and the high school in Bytów.

On Saturday four best teams competed in Oxford debates. In the first semi-final the students of the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin outperformed their peers from the Warsaw University of Technology. In the second one the Gdansk University of Technology beat Swietokrzyska University.

In the final debate about ‘’Should window woodwork industry be obliged to use only recycled materials?’’ the students of  Gdansk University got better evaluation and they won the fourth edition of ‘’Window on Construction’’. The best team won a grand cup and attractive prizes that were also given to the winners of the 2nd and 3rd  place.

All the participants, apart from attendance in the conference, had an opportunity to learn about DRUTEX and to visit Bytów with its 14th century castle.

- The conference is completely unique in Poland. Young construction entrants have an opportunity to showcase their own scientific work, as well as learn about achievements of their peers from other universities. It is one of the most interesting examples of DRUTEX cooperation with universities. It takes place on a number of levels, from internships, student training, scientific conferences and execution of common, innovative projects. Apart from construction and architecture it also involves faculties in the area of IT, mechanics, automation and robotics, as well as logistics and shipping - says Adam Leik, HR director in DRUTEX.  - DRUTEX is constantly developing in a dynamic way and it creates new highly-specialized work positions. As a result, we are able to reach exceptional students. They may learn about DRUTEX during their education stage and they can do internships and student trainings. When they complete their education, the best students  may get attractive job offers – adds A. Leik.

DRUTEX, with the workforce of almost four thousand staff, is one of the most valued employers in the construction industry. This year, for the third time in a row, the company won the title of the best employer in the construction industry in ‘Forbes’ ranking.

Co-organizers of  ‘Window to Construction’ conference, apart from DRUTEX S.A. are: Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environment at the Gdansk University of Technology and Academic Society of Technology and Construction Organization  (KOBRa).

The  media partner is Builder magazine, and papers of all teams taking part in the conference will be published in the dedicated edition of Builder Science!
