Drutex on the Moon? NASA selects Polish company for future lunar base

The American space agency NASA has selected DRUTEX as the supplier of windows and doors for the planned construction of a permanent base on the Moon. This marks a breakthrough not only for the company from Bytów, but also for Polish technological expertise. Securing such a prestigious contract confirms the company’s global position, built over more than 40 years of international activity.

The project is part of the Artemis program, aimed at returning humans to the Moon and establishing long-term infrastructure. The ambitions are significant – NASA plans to build the first permanent off-Earth base before the end of Donald Trump’s term. To achieve this, the agency has accelerated its efforts, shifting focus from earlier concepts such as the Gateway orbital station to direct surface presence.

A key element of the project is the creation of safe and functional living space in extreme space conditions. DRUTEX will play a crucial role here, delivering a complete set of specialized windows and doors for three modules of the lunar base. The formal contract signing is planned for Q2 this year, following rigorous testing and NASA certification.

The solutions developed by DRUTEX must withstand conditions far beyond standard construction requirements – including extreme temperatures ranging from deep cold to over 1100°C, high mechanical stress, and radiation. The structures will be made from advanced metal alloys, with thermal performance (Uw and Ug) reaching unprecedented levels.

The construction of the lunar base has been divided into three stages. DRUTEX will participate in the second phase, focused on residential infrastructure and cargo logistics. The total investment is expected to reach USD 20 billion and will lay the foundation for regular crewed missions.

This project may prove to be more than just a spectacular contract – it is a step toward a future where Polish solutions help build infrastructure not only on Earth, but beyond it.
